Although their voices are faint to our ears, they are well heard by the adults. They scurry about feeding themselves, much to the chagrin of parents, who try their best to protect them.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Collections - Where Elements Meet</image:title>
<image:caption>The magnificent “ Grotto” in Bruce Peninsula National Park is a visitors delight. Formation began approximately 400 million years ago, when the area was covered by a shallow tropical sea. The sea began to dry, magnesium in the water absorbed into the limestone, forming the harder dolomite caprock we see today. The storms of Lake Huron and waters of Georgian Bay continue to sculpt this stunning formation. For obvious reasons, more people visit these sites every year. With increased usage, comes increased responsibility to preserve and maintain delicate ecosystems.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Perilously close……These two young Woodcock chicks were following their mother across a busy highway. Mother was doing the comical bobbing strut that Woodcocks do, leading these little ones straight into oncoming traffic. I stopped the car, mother flushed as I approached. I stood between these little ones and the road until the traffic passed.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Holding Tight……Woodcocks characteristically “hold” when threatened. It’s their default defence mechanism. These little ones hunkered down on the shoulder of the road initially, and once danger had passed, I shooed them off into the ditch. I know their mother will return to find them. Back to the nest we are watching……..On June 19.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The Setup. I have placed a blind quite a distance from the den. Initially, I didn’t return to the blind for several days to give the foxes time to get used to its presence. The blind is cosy, protective from wind and provides welcome relief from blacklfies. The camera is mounted on a tripod, ready to go when the kits appear. The shutter is set to “silent” shooting which although is slower, is less intrusive for the foxes. Some days they come out of the den quickly, one day I waited two hours for their appearance.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The young kits are cautious yet curious. They pay very little attention to noises from adjacent properties or the road. Slight sounds from me are also ignored. However, rustling of feet in the leaves instantly sends them rocketing down the holes to the safety of their den. Seems to me they can discriminate between which sounds are benign and which herald life threatening potential.</image:caption>

<image:caption>It’s truly a gift to watch the young kits romp and play. I suspect they want the same things humans do….. food, safety, shelter and companionship. I welcome their presence, see their contribution to community and value their existence.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Personal — - A Swan's Perpective</image:title>
<image:caption>Father Trumpeter Swan….K09 to the biologists, is a most protective yet generous guardian. I would take my chair, set up my gear and visit with him and his family. Sitting quietly, I was able to remain close to them, acknowledging the privilege I was afforded. The Swans, when relaxed spend a great deal of time preening their beautiful feathers. I had my lens focussed on father, when I saw this image… a magical moment, peering under his strong wing, deep into the depths of his soft feathers. How do they see us? What do you think they see…from a Swan’s Perspective?</image:caption>
